Rough, raised growths caused by a common viral skin infection.
What is Warts?
Warts are benign growths caused by the human papillomavirus infecting the top layer of skin. They vary in appearance depending on the site — hands, feet, face or genital area.
Symptoms
- Rough, raised growths with a grainy surface
- Tiny dark dots within the lesion
- Pain on pressure when on the sole
- Spread to nearby skin over time

- Skin trauma, shaving or nail biting
- Reduced local immunity
Who May Be Affected
Warts are common in children and young adults, and in anyone with frequent skin trauma or reduced immunity.
